Mommy with a mummy toe

Well.. my healing toe must be ahead of schedule. The whole nail has dropped off today. What a new start to a New Year! So.. I'm walking around with bandages on my left big toe.. therefore the title of this posting "Mommy with a mummy toe."

Hopefully the toe will be in full recovery ahead of schedule. Just goes to show that you can't believe everything that you read on the internet. I was informed that this kind of damage done to a toe nail would take up to 18 months to heal. I'm only on my second month now.. and things are healing quickly.

I've decided to heal another aspect of my life. Since I grew up in an alcoholic home, New Year's Eve has always been an awful day for me. Negative memories from my childhood creep out of the darkness of my subconscious and haunt me with awful depression. Up until now I have coped by hiding myself away in my bedroom and running away from any "festivities" claiming that I was sleepy or such. BUT this year, I claim my own right to enjoy myself. The past is just that.. it's past. I cannot change what my parents chose to do when I was a child, but I can darn well choose how I want THIS New Year to be, and I'm chosing to enjoy myself.

I'm claiming this holiday to be a time of renewal: a time of love, and support: and a time of hope, and joy.

My kids nearly fainted when they heard that I was going to "party" with them and stay up until midnight this year. They have never had that happen before in their lives. So this is a first for my family.

Ah... onwards and upwards. Only good things can come from this kind of thing.

Good for you Supergroup. I'm sorry that you had bad experiences when you were a child during New Year.

good for you Mireille, good for you. That little post and your story reminded something I read in our John's bathtroom day-to-day clendar of all place. It's a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that goes like this: "Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."

I thought it made a lot of sense when I read it yesterday, makes even more sense today. The past is the past, don't dwell on it...

Have a nice 2007. Health, happiness and prosperity, in that order. Once you have the first two, you don't even need the third. :)

Take care, Steve.

Thank you for your supportive words.

New Year's eve was quite a fun experience, and I stayed up until almost 2 am. Now, my brain is tired, my body is tired, and my eyes are tired. I'm going to bed early tonight.

Ha ha ha

Maybe you saw 18 months when it was supposed to be 1.8 months?

Have a great year. You're on the right path!

Be well.
Moms are always needed. Wether they know it or not. They're a fountain of energy for kids until they can live off their own source.

To have you with them must be a great joy.

Having faced lots of bad christmases in my past, I'll say that such situations happen until we learn from them. Once we learn, they never come back again.

I send you a big bucket of good feelings and hope that such situations never happen again and that from now on, love fills your life.

:-D

that's great to know that things can reaally work as we want. The best for us to do is try harder and harder! I'm sure you have a full live in front of you so it's better live while we still move our little finger... :)

Cheers and have fun in the new year 2007

Ha ha ha Colin.. yes.. it could be that I misread the information.

I have to admit that the new toenail looks awful. It's all warped, discolored, and bumpy.. perhaps that is what is meant by the waiting time.

Yes Mat, my kids are my joy. Although they are also a great stress, especially right now at the end of 2 weeks of Christmas holidays where they are getting "bored" and wishing to be back in school where they can hang out with their friends. I'm finding myself scrambling for ideas to entertain them. Yesterday I sent them outside to build snow forts for future snow ball fights. You realize what this meant to me right? It meant that I had to accept the consequence of having parkas filled with snow come trampsing into my house and filling my entry way with wet boots, mitts, toques, scarves, pants, and anything else that they brought outside. (A good extra 45 minutes of cleaning for me...)

Ah but it's all good.

The best to you too, Aline!

Yes.. isn't it best to look at the good side of things? We may not have all that we want right now, but we do have enough to keep going.

Take care
Mireille
