I knew it. Now, it's beer, jokes, and silence. :-)

Great quotes. I especially like the St-Frances of Sales one.

I really like that fishing one.. but I read it with a slightly "karate" flair, such as

"It is not the black belt we wear that counts, for a black belt can be bought at any local martial arts store for less than $20. It is the sound of the gi rustling as we move, the energy of the kiai we sound, and the contemplation of our lessons as we walk the path of the Way."

Yes, the effort, not the result. :)

When I was high school, my World History teacher would always have us write down quotes that he liked in the beginning of class. There are so many inspirational quotes in the world.

Oh, I love quotes. I have a whole file of them saved on my computer. The ones you posted are some good ones. Here is my all time favorite quote:

"Victory will never be found by taking the path of least resistance." --Winston Churchill

This may and or may not be the case for hard style martial arts, especially a linear style. One basic premise of my art is to generate power in a straight line towards the target. I have found that this technique allows me to hit a person 'at will.' There's little resistance because people typically can't identify what I'm doing (Mir will tell you). However, it does take a little courage to do the technique successfully. If you think about resistance as mental resistance, then I guess the quote is spot on. Colin

A nice mix of authors. I especially liked the two from Emerson.

Colin is correct.. you do not realize that he is attacking until after the strike has already been there, done that.. then you shake your head and say "Hey! Where did that come from?"

I'd like to paraphrase something that Bruce Lee said - a punch should be felt and not seen. This is something that makes you think of how a basic technique is elevated to the level of 'art' in a martial art. Colin
